Bigstock Review

21 September 2012 Stock Photo Agencies Last update: 14 June 2015

Details | Website

Founded in 2004 as BigStockPhoto, in 2009 they were aquired by Shutterstock, the biggest subscription based image library. Following this, they changed the look of their website and adopted a new name, Bigstock, in 2010.

Bigstock has never been our best earner - after their acquisition by Shutterstock nothing happened for a long time until recently, when sales went up a little. We believe it is due to the fact that Bigstock, like other agencies introduced subscription based programs. A year ago we would probably not recommend it to anyone, but now we think you should give it a try, because you may be successful with your individual photographic style. We can definitely place Bigstock in the second part of our Top 10, hoping it will improve over the next couple of months.

To become Bigstock contributor you have to sign up, read their Contributors Tutorial and complete short quiz - then you can start uploading your images. Review times are pretty long, so be patient for a week or so before your stock photos get accepted and go online.

Our verdict:

With a new design, their website is very professional and intuitive, and provides good sales and views statistics. You should definitely register on Bigstock, as many photographers report thsi agency to be in their top 5 in terms of royalties.
