On Friday, December 1, 2017, Getty Images announced the closure of Stockxpert website.
Stockxpert, one of the early popular microstock agencies, was started in 2005 by Peter Hamza and Andras Pfaff and continued its operations till 2009. It was then acquired by iStockphoto but still continued to sell stock images via the platform and its affiliate partners until today.
Stockxpert contributor agreements will terminate effective January 1, 2018. All images will be removed from their own collections as well as distributors, such as subscription site Thinkstock by Getty Images. They plan to complete this process by the end of December 2017.
What About Payment?
Contributors do not have to worry about their royalties as everyone will receive final payment by June 30, 2018. It includes earnings that do not meet the minimum payment of $50. Contributors requesting royalties that meet the required minimum will receive payments as normal until the final payment. The exact date is unknown at the moment and it also depends on Stockxpert affiliates reporting their sales. Hopefully, the sooner they collect all data, the sooner they send payments to contributors.
