On January 22, 2016, Corbis sold Corbis Images, Corbis Motion, and Veer to Unity Glory International, an affiliate of the Visual China Group (VCG).
Also, following this transition, Getty Images (within the scope of continued partnership with VCG) will become the exclusive distributor of Corbis content outside China.
What it means to us, contributors?
Although existing agreements with Corbis have been transfered to VCG, for the time being the Corbis websites, licenses and royalties with continue to operate in the same way as before.
In the coming months, Corbis is planning to identify content from its collections to be transfered to Getty Images. Contributors not working currently with Getty Images and those whose content is selected will be offered a contract to cover migrated files. For those already contributing to Getty Images, assignment letters will be offered to transfer their content from Corbis sites.
Over the transition period, Corbis will continue to offer the content, and once migrated, it will also be available through Getty Images. If your content is not selected for transfer, it will continue to be distributed by VCG, or all rights will be returned to you as the contributor.
